About UPSC CSE examination-
UPSC CSE is one of the toughest and oldest examination of this country. UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission and established on 01 October 1926. Many aspirants are preparing for UPSC because there is a lot of craze about this examination. UPSC is a body which conducts the exam every year through which the aspirants or candidates get the chances to get into administration of the country. UPSC CSE stands Civil Services Examination. Through this examination the aspirants (who pass the examination) got selected as IAS, IFS, IPS ,IRS, etc. This government agency is responsible of the recruitment of the officers, it includes high level services like- IAS,IFS,IPS and IRS, etc. We all know that these are the backbone of the country’s administration.
These officers plays a very vital role in day-to-day administration and in policy – making and decision- making also. These officers plays very important role in the implementation of laws and in the maintenance of law and order also.
Eligibility for UPSC exam-
The following are the eligibility for UPSC exam-
- Candidates must be graduate in any stream
- Graduation final year students can also apply for this examination
- Candidates age should be atleast 21 years.
About UPSC Exam Pattern-
First of all, this exam includes three stages-
- Prelims
- Mains
- Interview
All these stages of this exam has a different pattern. So, if we talk about Prelims so this paper is objective type paper. If we talk about Mains , so , this paper is descriptive type paper. Let’s know more about UPSC exam pattern-
About Prelims Examination-
Prelims is also known as Preliminary Examination. It is objective in nature and consist of two papers. General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II (also known as CSAT).
- Total marks of Prelims exam is 400 marks.
- General Studies Paper-I contains 100 questions of 2 marks – means total 200 marks.
- General Studies Paper-II (CSAT)- contains 80 questions of 2.5 marks, total 200 marks.
- General Studies Paper-II -CSAT is qualifying in nature. It requires minimum 33% marks. Means candidates requires to score 33% of total marks.
- Time duration for this exam is two hours. Prelims is the one day exam both the papers means General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II are conducted on the same day . So, there is a proper time gap between both the papers.
- There is a negative marking in Prelims. 1/3rd marks are deducted for every incorrect answers.
About Mains Examination-
The aspirants who clears the prelims examination, they will have to appear for the mains examinations. The Mains examination is descriptive or written type of the examination.
- It consists of total nine papers, out of which two papers are the qualifying in nature. Means marks of these two papers are not counted for the final merit list but aspirants has to secure minimum 25% of the total marks of these two papers.
- Mains exam consist two language papers and four General Studies papers and two Optional subject papers..
- Total marks of Mains examination is 1750.
About Interview-
Interview is the personality test. It’s main objective is to check candidates aptitude or mental ability of handling the situation’s. It is of 275 marks.

Paper (B)-English
Please note that- Paper A and Paper B of Mains are of only qualifying in nature and their marks are not counted for final merit list.

- Paper-VI- Optional Subject- Paper-I
- Paper-VII- Optional Subject- Paper-II.
Please note that -Marks of Paper-I to Paper-VII are counted for the final merit list.
